Stone Grey uPVC entrance door, window and replacement roofline fitted to an Ipswich home

The Challenge

After purchasing the property, Mr Smith wanted to begin its improvement with a coordinated upgrade to the exterior. The existing windows, doors and roofline were becoming dated and increasingly maintenance-intensive. The project needed to improve the home’s appearance, thermal performance, security and protection from the weather while retaining a finish that complemented the original red-brick exterior.

Identifying the Problem

  • What was the existing condition of the structure/material?

The property had older windows and doors alongside an ageing timber roofline and guttering system. These elements required increasing maintenance and no longer provided the appearance, weather protection or energy performance expected from modern materials. Completing the different elements separately would also have risked an inconsistent exterior finish.

  • What were the client's pain points or goals?

The client wanted to modernise the outside of the recently purchased property while reducing future maintenance. The principal goals were to improve warmth and security, establish a consistent Stone Grey colour scheme and replace the vulnerable timber roofline with durable uPVC fascias, soffits and dependable rainwater drainage.

The Solution

  • Assessment:

Following a survey of the property, we recommended completing the windows, entrance door, French doors and roofline as one coordinated project. This allowed the frame colours, trims, fascia boards, guttering and downpipes to be planned together, producing a more consistent finish while minimising repeated disruption at the property.

  • Materials Used:

    - Windows:  Stone Grey uPVC casement and picture windows fitted with energy-efficient double-glazed units.
    - Entrance Door: — Stone Grey uPVC entrance door with a slim vertical glazed panel and secure multi-point locking.
    - French Doors:  Stone Grey uPVC double-glazed French doors providing easy access to the garden.
    - Roofline: Low-maintenance uPVC fascia and soffit boards installed as a full replacement rather than capped over the existing timber.
    - Rainwater Systems: Black uPVC guttering with matching downpipes to provide effective roof-water drainage.
    - Finishing: Colour-matched trims, cills, sealants and installation details for a clean, weather-resistant result.

  • Implementation:

The existing windows and doors were carefully removed before the openings were prepared for the new Stone Grey uPVC units. Each replacement was levelled, secured, sealed and finished with colour-matched trims before the glazing, handles and locking mechanisms were tested.

For the roofline, the old components were removed to expose the underlying structure. The rafter ends were inspected before the new fascia and soffit boards were installed, followed by the black guttering and matching downpipes. The completed rainwater system was checked for alignment and effective drainage, and all removed materials were cleared from the property.

  • Result Focus:

The completed work has given the Ipswich property a coordinated, contemporary exterior. The Stone Grey windows and doors complement the red brickwork, while the renewed roofline and black guttering provide a clean visual border around the roof.

Alongside the aesthetic improvement, the new double glazing and secure door systems help reduce heat loss, improve everyday operation and strengthen home security. The replacement fascias, soffits and guttering also reduce ongoing maintenance while helping protect the roof edges and walls from water ingress.

Lifespan

Long-term performance

The uPVC windows, doors and roofline components are resistant to rot and require substantially less maintenance than traditional timber. The installation is supported by Norfolk Exterior Solutions’ 10-year insurance-backed workmanship guarantee, together with the applicable manufacturer warranties for the individual products and hardware.

Visual impact

Coordinated Exterior

The Stone Grey frames provide a subtle contemporary contrast against the original red brickwork. Matching windows, entrance door and French doors create a consistent appearance, while the renewed fascia, soffits and black guttering give the roofline a neat, clearly defined finish.

Performance

Warm and Secure

Energy-efficient double glazing helps reduce unwanted heat loss and external noise, while modern multi-point locking improves security and ease of operation. The replacement roofline provides low-maintenance protection to the roof edges, with the soffits supporting roof-space ventilation and the guttering directing rainwater safely away from the building.
